Well I hope it's a little masculine at least ;-) This week's Monday Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp is about resist techniques with Ranger. For my resist I was debating what to use then I chose a method I think not many people know about: a candle! I rubbed the candle through a stencil (Tim Holtz Splotches). This when I realised not everything Tim Holtz is also Ranger, like my bird crazy
stampset I was planning on using, it's Stampendous ;-)..I have one Ranger stampset (clearly under the sea) but that was too dainty to use on top of this busy background. So I decided not to use any images and keep it fairly minimal and masculine. The sentiment is from Sizzix (happy birthday) I tried the Happy birthday from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Balloons, but that was also too dainty, I love it, it's so pretty, but it dissapeared ;-) Aynway back to the making: I rubbed the candle through the stencil, but you can also just scribble it on, it's a very distressed looking technique, I like that.
I used 300grams Schut hot pressed watercolor paper and I sprayed Distress spray stains (mermaid lagoon and wilted violet) on it, dried it with the heat gone and dipped in in what remained on the table, dried it again, dipped it again etc. I then used the nozzle of the spray bottles to add splatter in the same colors with the addition of white linen and anitgued bronze. dried it again. I used a piece of vellum for the sentiment
and wrapped it around the panel. I raised the panel with foamtape and as it's always a tiny bit smaller than my cardbases I used a dotted washi tape at the side. For more information on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, see this
I had too many ideas for the Less is More challenge: white space but not white, I had them all go through my head yesterday, then this morning I saw the Addicted to CAS cards Challenge: inlaid diecut and it crystallized to this card. I made an underwater scene with Distress re-inkers (mermaid lagoon, wilted violet, wild honey and fossilized amber) on thin watercolor paper. I made an ombre effect as the sun never quite reaches the bottom of the ocean. I diecut the anchor from Nellie's Choice from the panel and twice from my very own reactive paper. I developed this paper together with a copy service that helps disabled or sick people learn a trade and reintroduce them to paid work, hopefully. You can order this paper A4 sheet is only 1 euro and all proceeds go to them. It's nice and sturdy 250grams paper or 120lbs so if you diecut it it holds up as an embellishment. I foiled it with rose gold foil from Decocraft and gold from fabfoil (WoW!) and chose the rose gold in the end as the godl was too similar to the sandbank I taped sticky tape on the back and inlaid all the small bits so it essentraill becomes one layer again. I stamped the sentiment from Joy! craft seashore with Versafine black onyx. one diy enamel dot and two i think from Hero Arts silver backed dew drop like things. I thought they could be bubbles. I plpace the sentiment next to the anchor to maximize the empty space but the bubbles help your eye travel up. In the video I also show the Studio light stampset as you could add a fish or a few shells on the sand if you weren't making a CAS card ;-)

Sparkle and Shine Challenge #27 For my card I made a panel of Neenah Solar white and I cut it at an angle. I then traced a stencil from Scrapberry's (dotted pattern) with pencil and filled the dots in with colors from the inspiration photo/umbrella. I don't have any umbrella or rain themed stamps, so I chose to use the colors and the dots as my inspiration. I've used my Spectrum Noir markers to color the dots and then traced the stencil again with a black multiliner and erased the pencil lines. I had trouble staying inside the lines, so I am not wondering of that piece of solar white was indeed solar white ;-), or just juicy markers... I don't mind, it's handmade afterall.
The sentiment is from Create a smile ( time to say thanks) and I stamped it in Versafine black onyx on the cardbase. I mounted the dotted panel on the cardbase with foamtape for some added dimension and interest. A few (PPP) sequins dotted around the card to finish this fun colourful card. I got this stamp from Wild Rose studio today and I had to use it straight away, ofcourse! I had the Simon Says Stamp Work it Wednesdays in mind, where the theme is: pastels. I think dragons can be any color you like so I chose a really pale blue, pale purple, pale green and a darker blue for contrast for my little scene. I stamped it all in Memento Tuxedo black ink and colored it with my Spectrum Noir markers. For the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, the theme is Ranger, and anything goes. For the CAS Colours & Sketches #167: double dip (colours and a sketch). I combined the two, hopefully succesfully ;-) I've used Ranger Distress inks (mermaid lagoon and mustard seed) for the sun and sky and Ranger dye ink Java bean for the stamping. To make the panel I masked off an area and the sun and filled it with Mermaid lagoon with the help of a mini inkblending sponge, also from Ranger. Then I lifted the sun mask and filled it with the mustard seed, blending it out into the sky a little, which rendered it green, not seen that is real life, ever, but I kinda like the surrealistic effect, like in a dream... The dandelion stamp is from Marianne design (TC0837) and I got it today, especially for this card. The sentiment is from Uniko (all occasion sentiments #6). The darker bit on the sketch in the middle I made with the yellow twine, I wanted to keep it one layer and as CAS as possible. The twine divides the cardfront like the sketch, in my opinion ;-) defining the two spaces. I hope you can see it, lol...
Over at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, the theme is "we can see clearly"...now the rain has gone..oh no wait..haha that's something else ;-) My card had been a bit of a headache, I filmed it, but I don't think I can upload it, riddled with mess ups and a whole lot of mess on the desk ;-)... I made a pouch from Avery Elle stamp pocket, I assumed the bottom would have 3 closed sides...I only needed to iron shut the top. I tried it first with acetate, but that wouldn't melt. I also tried it with my Leitz pockets...the Avery Elle are just not very strong at the seams, and I forgot about that....not good when you fill the pockets with water, food coloring and baby oil....oh the mess. give me glitter anytime lol. Tried to clean up the pocket as best as I could but the oil kept seeping through the from panel :-( Anyway I think it's not leaking at least...phew... I die cut a circle from the cardbase and a panel so I could sandwhich the pounch in between with 2 layers of foamtape. I stamped the octpus from Ranger (clearly under the sea) with Memento and colored it with my Spectrum Noir markers. I used a Neenah solar white panel to hide the markers on the back. I attached this inner panel to the cardbase. The sentiment is from Joy! crafts and I stamped it with Versafine black onyx. It was fun to make, but hard, I wonder if the Fuse tool would make a watertight seal? I don't know, I don't have it, so I used my craft iron. Worked but it's much harder to control. Needless to say I won't try and mail this card, hand delivery only...it might get squished and burst open.... Anyway for more information on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, see this
A second entry for the Less is More Challenge: polkadots. And a second entry for CAS Colours & Sketches. I said the sentiment gave me an idea (or two) for another card in my last post. I only now had time to make it. It's also very much inspired by me first card for CC&S, see photo below (with the butterfly) I used the Simon Says Stamp butterflies stampset for the big polkadot hello and the tiniest "my friend" stamp. Stamped it all with Ranger dye inks (classic cherry, cheese puff, lemon twist, electric lime and Carribean coast as well as black tie for the sentiment). Few homade enamel dots and gluedots to finish the look, although without them would still be a nice card. I measured the middle and started with yellow, then I should have done the outer two, but I didn't..so now it doesn't quite fit, but I see them as balloon soaring upwards...or bubbles emerging from the cards' edge and I kinda like thatm so I left it instead of making a new one, happy accident I guess ;-)
