the less is more challenge #295: use thread, with video

For the Less is More challenge,  wich is all about useng thread I created a cameo looking deer.

I started by stamping the sentiment in Versamark ink on a cardbase.
I then sprinkled on Papermania’s superfine silver powder and heat set it.

The I die cut the deer out, this one’s from Yvonne creations, not sure if it’s readily available, I think it’s a Dutch brand, but similar dies are available across the industry, I’m sure.
I chose this one instead of, say the Memory box one I have woodland deer, as the antlers are less dainty.
For this technique to show you need a proper area to come through the die cut .
In the video I show you snowflakes and other Christmassy dies, but if the dies are too detailed, this technique won’t be as good ;-)

Any shape will do though, think of ornament dies, solid tree dies, igloo, etc.

I chose an array of silver and blue embossing powders as I wanted that frosty wintery snowflake feeling. Instead it turned out into a navy seals cameo outfit lol. Kidding I love the effect.

For this card I used the actual die cut, the little deer you see at the end of the video.

I used: Papermania superfine silver, Wow! Embossing powders in the colors:  frozen, iced silver coastal, earthtone blueberry.

You can use a little spoon, a straw end your fingers, just disperse the powders onto the sticky area in a random fashion.
I sprinkle all the colors first, then heat set in one go. If i feel one color is too dominant, I point away the heat gun and sprinkle on some other colors and then point the heat towards it.

Mount the deer with foamsquares and adhere it to the card base.

I used a hole puncher to notch the sides of the card and wrapped some blue and white baker's twine, I opted for a bow to tie it, but it looked to cramped, to I just used sticky tape on the inside to secure it.

Cameo embossing or multicolor embossing with video

For the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge,  wich is all about powder power I created a cameo looking deer.

I started by stamping the sentiment in Versamark ink on a panel, the same size as a card front.
I then sprinkled on Papermania’s superfine silver powder and heat set it.

The I die cut the deer out, this one’s from Yvonne creations, not sure if it’s readily available, I think it’s a Dutch brand, but similar dies are available across the industry, I’m sure.
I chose this one instead of, say the Memory box one I have woodland seer, as the antlers are less dainty.
For this technique to show you need a proper area to come through the die cut window.
In the video I show you snowflakes and other Christmassy dies, but it the dies are too detailed, this technique won’t be as good ;-)

Any shape will do though, think of ornament dies, solid tree dies, igloo, etc.

I chose an array of silver and blue embossing powders as I wanted that frosty wintery snowflake feeling. Instead it turned out into a navy seals cameo outfit lol. Kidding I love the effect.

I trace the opening onto the card base, and draw a bigger area around it, I know where to smoosh my Versamark ink now. Thick coating is advisable as it takes a while to sprinkle all the little bits.

I used: Papermania superfine silverm Wow! Embossing powders in the colors:  frozen, iced silver coastal, earthtone blueberry.

Here's a Birthday flyby

This week's challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches is a sketch.a

I diecut a rectangle from some printerpaper to make a mask, torn other bits of paper to make clouds.
Inked the rectangle first with Tumbled glass, then Broken China, both Distress inks.

I stamped the dragons from My Favorite Things (magical dragons) with My Favorite things hybrid black ink and then watercolored them , also with Distress inks
and die cut them out. I wento over the purple dragon with Talens ecoline as I didn't like how the wilted violet turned out.

The sentiment is from the same stampset and I stamped it with Versafine black ink.

Popped the dragons with some foamdots and adhered them to the cardbase, popping out of the ractangle as those swirly bits on the sketch.

It was hard to capture the inked rectangle as it's so light, so sorry for the awkward picture, or is it artsy picture ? ;-)

twins shower treat box

The Wednesday Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp is: gift it with Clearly besotted.

Now this morning I made a box for a little Ferrero Rocher as a Christmas favor, with video and all.

But I thought it could also be a baby shower gift, so I made one from Neenah Solar white paper, scored it all the same and then stamped Clealry Besotted's Hot stuff on the four sides, they just fit!

I used MY Favorite Things hybrid black in so I could color them with my Spectrum Noir markers.

The sentiment is from the same stampset and I made it into a little tag and stapled it to the box.

for the box you need a piece of (patterened) paper sized: 6"1/2 wide by 4"3/4"high
Score on the long side at: 1"1/2, 3", 4"1/2 and 6"
score on the short side at: 1"1/2, 3"and 4"1/4

Measure 2"1/4 and 5"1/4 and mark the spot, then connect the spot to the lower corners in the square to  make a triangle, like in the photo of the pattern.

See video for step by step guide on how I made the Christmas version.

Ferrero Rocher treat box, with video

A mini milk carton shaped box to fit, just one of those yummy treats.

Decorate how you like it, I kept it simple with just a tag, but snowflakes, deer diecuts etc, you can go wild. I wanted to see the shape of the box and they have to travel, so I kept it simple.

there's two versions a slightly smaller box, with easier dimensions, but a "normal"sized one, whih I prefer.

so for the normal size youneed a piece of (patterned) paper 6"1/2 x 4"3/4 inch
score on the long side at: 1"1/2, 3", 4"1/2
and 6"
score on the short side at: 1"1/2, 3"and 4"1/4

For the taller sized box use a piece of (patterned paper 6"1/2 x 5"
score on the long side at: 1"1/2, 3", 4"1/2 and 6"
score on the short side at: 1"1/2, 3 and  4"1/2

The paper you should use, should be thinner than cardstock, so it's easier to get the shape, thick cardstock sometimes doesn't want to bend where the triangles are.

to make the triangular scores you need to measure and mark 2"1/4 and 5"1/4 and then score form each corner on the bottom of the square to that mark, see pictures.

I started using hot glue for my boxes when I ran out of sticky tape and I like it!, it sets quickly, so no holding it for ages as with liquid glue and no fiddling with double sided tape thingies.

Merry and Bright

The theme over at Less is More this week is: diamonds.

I made two cards as I didn;t like the first, then made the second, made me like the first one again...ah choices, choices, well you decide.

For the first card I made a stencil with a  Sizzix/Tm Holtz die and inked Distress inks Festive berries through it.
The I mixed some Ranger texture paste transparent glossy with some white fine glitter dust, and spread that over the stencil too.

I stamped the stag from Hero arts (deer 4x6) with Versafine, about three times to get the solid and dark image (was a new stamp).

So I when I finished I thought it wasn't as CAS as it could be, or should be...so I decided to just stamp the deer and turn him into  Rudolph (a reindeer) ah well.
I blacked out the white around it's nose and added a red rhinestone and googly eyes.

I then thought it was too bare ;-) and added diamond washi tape, I like red and purple together. Also wondered if the red rhinestone would be diamondy enough...
So i decided my first one was actually rather cool haha....women!

Anyway, for more information  on the Less is More challenge, see this

peekaboo windows

Or rather the stitched triple peekaboo windows dynamics from My Favorite Things was the inspiration for this week's card.

The challenge over at Addicted to CAS is: stitched
and it's a colour challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches.

I matched the colors as best as possible with my Spectrum Noir markers and I only used one color per monster with a little black palette blending for the shadows.

The monsters are from Lawn Fawn (monster mash) I stamped them with Memento tuxedo black ink on Neenah solar white paper and used IB3, GB7 and CG4 for my colors.
Used matching dies to cut them out.

Made the panel with the stitched windows slightly smaller and diecut the windows out, I left them together for  now.
Stamped the sentiment also from Lawn Fawn, also with Memento tuxedo black and mounted the panel with foam tape to the card base.
Tucked in the monsters, mounted parts of them also with foamtape.

I'm sorry the photo is a bit dark, the monster match better in real life, will try tomorrow without flash, it's 1 am here now so needed the flash ;-)

CAS Christmas Card

The theme of the Wednesday Challenge, over at Simon Says Stamp is: CAS (clean and simple) featuring CAS-ual Fridays.

I have the CAS-ual Fridays stamp set called lovely snowflake and must love snowflakes, so had to be a Christmas card ;-).

I stamped the snowflake and sentiment from Lovely snowflake onto a panel slightly smaller than the card base (1cm) and I used Versafine black onyx for that.
I even used the MISTI but I had to redo this card/panel 4 times! see picture.
You can’t hide anything with CAS cards ;-)

Then I used Lawn Fawn dies (Finley’s 123) to die cut the 25 out of the panel for Christmas day.
I  sponged Distress ink twisted citron on the card base behind the 25 opening so it would make it pop.

I chose twisted citron because it’s so vibrant, I considered mowed lawn, my favourite green and even cracked pistachio, but I thought they would be too bland.

I made a similar card before using ice blue and a red behind the openings.

I mounted the panel with foam tape and then used Ranger enamel accents in electric lime for some enamel dots.
Then I dropped my eraser on the panel and smooshed out all the enamel accents L so started again...

I almost left out the dots on this last attempt,  but I won’t let a card defeat me ;-)..placed them somewhere else on the card too.

Halloween cat with partial diecut see through moon, with videos

The Monday Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp is: at the movies featuring Spellbinders products.

I don't have any Spellbinders products I'm afraid, but I thought this little cat flying past the moon looks a lot like that clip from E.T. with the boy on the bike...

It's a stamp from Wild Rose Studio called Halloween cat.
I stamped it on watercolor paper from Schut with My Favorite Things hybrid black in and the used a circle die to partially die cut the moon. I used a craftknife to cut around the cat.
To Make the moon I used yellow kite paper.
On hindsight the panel I made to hide the edges of the kite paper could have been the cardbase, I didn't think far ahead enough ;-).
I used Talens Ecoline to watercolor the panel and the Splattered white ecoline and Distress spray stain in Brushed pewter for the stars.
Wink of stella on the hat and mantel.
Stuck the panel to the cardbase that also has a hole. I like the light to shine through the kite paper.
As my watercolor panels are always slightly narrower and longer I filled the gap with some patterened paper and cut off the extra bit at the end, to make sure it all fits and not be too small or anything silly like that ;-)

Welcome baby, with video

The theme over at Less is More this week is: one layer.

So I cut a sheet of Neenah Solar white in half and folded it in half again to get the card.
I used Lili of the Valley Pots of Love for the main image , but cut off the “pots of love” rather than masking it.
I also used the “welcome” from Uniko’s set home sweet home and “baby” from Simon Says Stamp’s set happy 3x4.
I stamped everything with Memento Tuxedo black ink for Spectrum Noir marker coloring.
After coloring the image I dotted the eyes with a white gel pen
I haven’t covered the inside of the card, might still do to cover up the seepage.

If you'd like to know the marker colors I've used, please refer to the video.

Life is a beautiful ride....

It’s  Stamptember!
Wich means both the Monday and Wednesday Challenges over at Simon Says Stamps is: stamp it! Showcasing Simon Says Stamp exclusives.

Now as much as I want to I haven’t been able to order anything yet from this release, the secret garden with the fairy and the Simon Stackable from Art Impressions are just awesome as is the birch trees die, but yeah will have to wait ...

Anyway onto the card I made: I used Simon Say Stamp set beautiful ride with the coordinating dies.
I stamped it with the Misti onto Schut watercolour paper with My Favorite things hybrid black ink.
I stamped the cat and dog on a separate piece of watercolour paper.

I used Distress inks to watercolour the whole thing and added in the meadow grassy background.
I die cut the dog and cat and made a slit in the basket so I could fit him in there.
I also added a few paper flowers to the basket as if they were just picked.

The dog is running in front of the bike, the cat is smarter and let’s himself being driven ;-).
Added some foam dots behind the dog and cat for dimension.

My Tjeerd is black and white, and although the markings are not right on this cat, my Tjeerd loved to ride in the basket of my bike, until we stopped as a crossway or something , he always wanted to jump out, so had to keep the leash real tight, my basket sadly died the rusty death..lol...so now he comes in his carrier bag.
The looks of people watching you ride your cat in the basket...like a proper crazy cat lady haha.
As if it’s weird taking your cat for a ride...Tjalk on the otherhand prefers the confinement of the house and balcony if she must.

Mounted the watercolour panel to the card base with foam tape and filled the gap with washi tape as the panel is always smaller.

Happy Fall, with video

For the Addicted to CAs I made this card of a scarecrow on a pumpkin.
The image and sentiment are from Art Impressions (happy fall) and I stamped them with Versafine black onyx onto  Schute watercolor paper.
I colored the image with Distress inks and used fall colors for the splatter as if they're falling leaves.
My watercolor panels are always a bit smaller than the cardbase so I fill up the gap with washi tape in orange tones to compliment the image.

Buddy and Duck

Some Spectrum Noir marker coloring on Neenah solar white paper.
I used My Favorite things hybrid black ink for the stamping as I also planned Distress ink splatters, to fill some of the empty space, like confetti adding to the party feel.

I made the panel slightly narrower that the cardbase, like I usually have to my watercolor paper, but now intentionally, so I can also add some washi tape to fill the gap and repeat the color of the balloon.

Mounted the panel with foamtapefor dimension whilst still keeping it CAS.

I didn't really like my other entry so I'm entering one more to the Virginia's view challenge

Framed deer with video

For my card I made a wintery background.
First I tried smooshing the inkpad onto an acrylic blockand then “stamping”it on watercolour paper, but I either didn;t use enough water or this paper just won’t flow the inks well, so I got allthe stripes where I swiped, you can see it in the photo, also adjusted my color choice a little .

So instead of smooshing I got out my refillers of Distress inks (chipped sapphire, faded jeans, stormy sky and tumbled glas). Wetted the paper and with a wide brush I applied t
he inks.

I kind of wanted a frayed edge as I thought to use a narrower frame and I thought it would be quite nice if the coloring peeked from behind, but I decided against it after my banner sentiment wouldn’t fit.

I heat set it and proceeded with my splattering, Distress ink spray brushed pewter andantigued bronze and Dylusions white picket fence. I don’t have the Lindy’s stampgang sprays, just a few embossing powders, which I used on my birch trees fro Avery Elle (Let it snow stampset). For this I used Lindy’embossingpowder silver moon turquoise. As I thought silver briches..silver...hmm might work ;-).
I used the MISTI to stamp the trees and left it in there as I knew the embossingpowder is translucent and I didn;t know how it would show up. You can see the immense shimmer of these almost ghostly trees now. If it hadn’t worked or I didn;tlike it I would have restamped the trees and add another layer of white embossingpowder. I thought the stark white would be too much as I already have a white frame and deer.I still have that second panel, so I might try it , maybe white glitter embossing powder..oooh..
I dieut the Memory Box woodland deer form the inner bit of the frame and adhered it to the frame after I mounted foam tape on the back.
Attached the watercolored panel and adhered it all to a cardbase.
I added some of my Wow! Eombossingpowder/melt it enamel dots.

did finish the second panel, but not with white embossing powder for the trees but with this amazing one from Wow! fairy dust it's called. glitterpaper with stick it for the deer and snowy hill, bluie staple to attach vellum movie ticket sentiment

Update September 25th:

Sunday 4 September 2016

It's a stitch up! with video

The Monday Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp, almost due to close is about adding a sewed element, real or faux.
For my stitching I used a die with a stitched edge to make a Neenah solar white panel for Spectrum Noir markers and Copic Markers coloring.

I stamped the image with Memento tuxedo black ink. It’s from Penny Black (xoxo).
As I started coloring I used Caucasian skin colors, but then thought the little girl looked Asian to me, so went over the skin with a TN2 for a more yellow tinged skin.
I added pleats into the skirt and then used glitter gel pens to dot the dress as if it’s made of sequins.
Little princess dress ;-)
The die cut is from a Dutch company (Nellie Snellen) and to foil it I brushed on Heidi Swapp Minc reactive spray on the lower half. I intentionally did it a bit rough as I wanted a distressed look.
You could do a proper straight edge as well, I think that might be neat for a man card.
To make the die cut stronger I glued two layers on top of each other with Ranger multi medium matte glue.
To adhere the panel I used  the ATG tape and I mounted it flush, to adhere the sentiment I used a bit more multi medium glue.
I considered adding enamel dots or sequins around the panel as I felt it was a bit empty, but the sparkle on her dress and the shiny foiled die cut seemed enough glitz and glamour lol

The foil is from Wow! Fabfoil (dark blue).
I was trying to replicate a coloring I did a few months ago on a 8'x11' sheet (coloring page actually) It's easier to do it on the big in my opinion and I don;t feel 100% happy with the outcome, but yeah i'm my worst critic ;-) and tastes vary.
