I only have cardstock I use for my gift boxes, so I rummaged through my pile and found this pretty polka dot like paper (Craft Sensation Christmas pack), I cut one card panel and the letters from the dotted paper, then from a solid cardtock I cut the shadow layer, I went for a slightly darker tone, I had one matching the pink dots, but I thought it needed the darker to contrast.
It's from My Favorite Things (Birthday Vibes dienamics) and I like how it looks like I cut the letters from the shadow layer and the cardbase is shining through. I had added double sided tape on the back of the letters so adhering them to the shadow layer is as easy as sticking stickers down,

Yes to polka-dot patterned paper both for your panel and your sentiment. I agree: the backing does create the impression that the letters are part of the base. Such a pretty card!
