The Male Room Challenge: Food

This month the Male Room Challenge is all about food, manly food ofcourse ;-).

I've used a digi from Stamponit (Couch potato), he's a lazy teenage boy dreaming about his favorite  tv night ;-). I've added the text whilst I was prepping the digi in Photoshop. I went for a foodie twist on my film titles.

I'd like to see the Lord of the Fries hehe or Silence of the yams, well Starch Trek also sounds fun. I wonder if you can come up with more titles.

Anyway I printed the digi on Copic paper and colored him with alcohol markers.

Then adhered the panel to a cardbase.

The Male Room Challenge November: Gnomes

This month the Male Room Challenge is all about Gnomes.

For my cards I used a Digit from Twistoon Digis and  I added the sentiment in Photoshop.

I coloured the image with alcohol markers, all of the ones I have lol CopIcs, Spectrum Noir and  Graph-it markers.

There's a lady Gnome in the digi, but the male ones and I think of coffee as a male drink mostly, like cowboys  brewing it on the campfire ;-) just me I know, I don't drink it. Also it reminded me of that chIldrens story about the cobbler, I think they weren't gnomes but I thought these might be gearing up to help, maybe in my garden?

I tried to keep the colours more manly, blues, green purples and a white gel pen for the highlights.

Cut the panel smaller and adhered it to a cardbase with taperunner.

the Male Room Challenge October: Black and White

This month the Male Room Challenge is all about Black and White and only Black and White.

That threw me a little because skintones would be nice if I coloured a stamped image. So instead I made a treatbox, party favor, Hostess gift, what ever you want to call it. But manly.

I've used two kinds or patterned paper one black with white presents and one white with black dragonflies.

If you want to make one similar box you'll need a piece of paper 4"High and 4"3/8 long.

Score on the long side at: 3/8, 2", 2"3/8, 4"

Score on the short side at 3/8 on both sides.

fold and burnish the score lines and cut away notches as shown in pattern below.

I use hot glue to put the box together and I  put a dab on eacht little tab.

it fits 2 Merci bars.  And looks pretty with a nice coloured ribbon, for the challenge I only iused black and white, but I also made a few coloured ones for you to see.

The Male Room Challenges September theme: Nature's bounty

This month we at the Male Room are all about autumn, harvest, Thanks giving, nature's bounty.

There's many ways to interpret this, in fact this is my second rendition. I discarded the first.

For my card I've used two sets from Paperie Ink: Many thanks and Autumn fun.

I've stamped the images onto Copic friendly paper and coloured them with Graph-it markers, then cut them out.

For the background/cardbase I've inkblended Distress inks, Mermaid lagoon, blueprint sketch, salty ocean, twisted citron and cracked pistachio.

The sentiment is from the Many thanks set.

Layered my images onto the background as if they're playing in the forest or garden, bringing in the harvest.

I think it's still perfect for a boy, maybe not a manly card though.

The Male Room Challenge August: We're 8!

The Male Room Challenge this month is all about our birthday.

For my card I've used the My Favorite Things Old Friends. I colored him with Copic markers, cut him out.

For the background I've used a diy stencil I made with Distress inks (Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard seed, Twisted Citron, Salty Ocean, Wilted Violet and Picked Raspberry)

I made the sentiment in Photoshop and printed it out. I meant it to be on the background, but my laser printer likes to print on the slant, so I cut it out and adhered it to the cardbase with

foamtape, the man as well.

The Male Room Challenge July: Christmas in July

This is the perfect month to start with Christmas cards and of course our theme is: Christmas in July.

For my card I printed a  freebie digi from Dustin Pike, if you want it you might still be able to find it on his blog.

I printed it on watercolour paper. Added the sentiment while I was  prepping the image in Photoshop.

Coloured the image with Talens Ecoline and adhered the panel to a cardbase.

The Male Room Challenges #151: Dads and Grandads

The June challenge for the Male Room is: Dads and Granddads, it's Father's day over here on the 20th of  June.

I didn't go for a Father's day card, but birthday with a snarky sentiment.

Both the image and sentiment are from Art Impressions (Birthday Laugh Lines). I've stamped the image with My Favorite Things Extreme black and coloured it with Copics, Spectrum Noir and Graph it markers. Cut it out with the Scan N Cut.

For the background I masked of an area and applied Distress inks, Speckled egg and Peacock Feathers, I wanted it manly coloured but not matchy matchy. I

then stamped the dentures from the same Art Impressions set randomly across the area. Mounted the image with foamtape and adhered it to the cardbase.

Stamped the sentiment with Versafine ink. Chronically challenged made me giggle...I think I am too ;-) haha.

The Male Room Challenge: Water/Beach

This month the Male Room Challenge is all about water and or the beach.

I went with an underwater  scene.

It's based on a T-shirt I once saw and I thought it was hilarious. I like punny cards for men, so it all made sense in my head.

The Shark and the little fish are from Avery Elle (Shark hugs and Monkey sea, Monkey do), I stamped them with My Favorite Things Extreme Black ink on Copic colouring paper, then cut them out.

I then Printed the Sharkasm using Word onto a panel. Did the sentiment in Word too "Yes, I just love a salad" hehe, cos you know Sharks eat a lot of greens....

Anyway coloured the images with Copic markers.

For the background I inkblended Distress inks (Tumbled Glass, Mermaid Lagoon, Chipped Sapphire) on the the Sharkasm panel and then splattered water for bubbles.

The Algea or Seaweeds are dies from a Pound Shop like store in the Netherlands and  I cut them from a variety of green card.

Adhered the panel to a cardbase then added the images and lastly the seaweed.

The Male Room Challenge #149: Wood

This month the Male Room Challenge theme is: Wood.

I interpreted it like Woods, a forest, a shrubbery hehe well you know woods.

For my card I masked off an area, applied Distress inks ( Speckled egg, Evergreen bough and Pine Needles), then splattered it with water and dried it with my heattool.

Left the lower mask on and took the one on the top away so I could stamp my trees with them going off  the inkblended bit. For this I used Nellie Snellen stamps (Sil037, Csil004), I did cut up the groups of trees so I could make my own forest arrangement. For stamping I've used Versafine ink.

I also wanted to use the silhouette deer, but I was worried they wouldn't stand out. So instead I diecut Marianne Design CR1289 from dark grey cardstock and adhered it on the card, they could be standing in a snowbank.

The sentiment is from Whimsy Stamps ( Simple sentiment strips), and I also stamped it with Versafine ink.

The Male Room Challenge #148: not a card

I'm so honoured to announce I've joined the Male Room Challenge Design Team. I've played along many times, and I'm so glad they wanted me.

For the "not a card" challenge, I thought I could make a bookmark.

I cut a strip of watercolour paper, Schut hotpressed and coloured it with Talens Ecoline, then splattered it with the pearlescent colour in the Finetec Metallic, for stars, a little shimmer. I've stamped the tree with Versafine ink once the background was dry.

Stamped the Giraffe from Katzelkraft (les Jungles) onto Copic paper and coloured it with Triblend Markers, then cut it out. I thought the

long neck was perfect for a bookmark, I could have placed him a bit higher, but didn't want to cover all of the tree.

Also the Katzelkraft stamps are just perfect for masculine cards I think.

Glued  the giraffe ontop and passed it through a laminator.

Cut of excess and punched a hole  in the top, bit of ribbon to hang out of the book.
